STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
fAX: (303) 832-8106
21 August 2003
Mr. George Patterson
Energy Fuels Coal, Inc.
PO Box 459
Florence, CO 81226
Re: Technical Revision No. 35 (TR-35)
Southfield Mine (C-81-014)
Dear Mr. Patterson,
COLORADO
DIVISION O F
MIN&RALS
GEOLOGY
0.EC LAMATION•M INING
SAFETY•SCIENCE
Bill Owens
Governor
Greg E. Walther
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cottony
Division Direcor
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division has completed its adequacy review of Technical Revision 35 -converting
the North Dewatering Well into a monitoring well. Below are questions the Division has
regazding the 9 July 2003 submittal.
Based on the description of the dewatering operations on pages 2.05.3-12 to 14,
it's not clear what hydraulic connections exist that will effect the water levels at
the proposed location. Please describe in the groundwater monitoring section
exactly where the North Dewatering Well is situated in the underground flow
system. From where does water accumulate in the 1-North section?
Is it predicted that water will flow out of the 1-North section once the level
reaches some particulaz level? If it will exit the 1-North section, where will it
flow?
3. The proposed well was added to the Probable Hydrologic Consequences section
of the permit. Please include there a prediction of what data from that well will
show. That is, based on the most recent data concerning mine inflows and the
operator's knowledge of the mined-out sections, what is anticipated at this
location?
4. The depiction of this well on the revised map included in the revision submittal
does not make clear exactly where the well is located. Please assure that the well
is included on maps of the monitoring locations.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geolog[cal Survey
