AUG-05-93 03:52PM FROtFMcCULLEY~KiGILtIAN 3034471836 • T-000 P.03/03 F-576 <br />from another project indicated an internal friction angle of 30° and a rnhesion of 200 psf. <br />The corresponding values applied for these parameters in our analyses were 20° and 0 psf, <br />respectrvely_ Despite the conservative values used, our analyses indicated a factor of <br />safety of 1.2 under static loading conditions and 1.14 under pseudostatic loading <br />conditions. <br />If a failure were to occur through the embankment raise and the underlying tailings, tha <br />rotation would be into the impoundment and would likely oca,r during construction, at a <br />point when there would be little if any probability of a compromising the embankment to the <br />point where a release would be possible. <br />In light of the above considerations, we believe that any results produced through the <br />conduct of uiaxlal tests on samples of the existing tailings materials would be of minimal value and <br />would not motivate any refinement of the design proposed for the facility.
