• iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii •
999
EXHIBIT H
• WILDLIFE INFORMATION
•
•
Due to the amount of cropland disturbance associated with the Mesa Gravel Pit, wildlife
habitat is limited. Critical species or habitats (i.e. sage grouse dancing grounds, greater
sandhill cranes, or black-footed ferrets) were not observed on the site. There may be
limited grazing of winter wheat by deer or elk and occasional use by upland game birds,
but this would be generally restricted by snow or the availability of better nearby habitat.
The sedimentation ponds located in the northeast (existing) and northwest (proposed)
corners of the Permit Area would provide a limited water source for big game, upland
birds, or waterfowl, although the nearby Yampa River and associated floodplain areas
provide significantly better habitat values. It is SCC's intent to retain these ponds
following completion of operations for wildlife use.
The following is a list of species which have been sighted or aresuspected to be in a five
mile radius of the site.
H-1 Revised May 1998
