Ms. Joanna Williams
RE: Combined South Platte SSP Renewal
April28, 2005
Page 2 oj6
FULTON DITCH
Lafarge owns 25.0 shares in the Fulton Ditch which are recharged into Zigan Reservoir during the
irrigation season. The historic consumptive use used for these Fulton Ditch shares remains unchanged
from previous submittals to the SEO. These shazes have been used for recharge since the 2001 season.
WATER BALANCE AND REPLACEMENTS
Two replacement sources are currently included in the plan for Water Year 2005. These include the
recharge of 25 Fulton Ditch shares and a lease of reusable effluent from the City of Greeley.
Structures Used for Recharge
Zigan Reservoir is a reclaimed gravel pit located in Adams County along the South Platte River, slightly
northwest of the intersection of Hwy 85 and East 124th Avenue. The reservoir's location is Township 1
South, Range 67 West, Section 35, 6`h P.M. The reservoir has a decreed augmentation plan using Fulton
Ditch shares.
Water Commissioner Bob Stahl approved the diversion of Lafarge's 25 Fulton shares into the Zigan Pit
Reservoir since the 2001 irrigation season. The owners of Zigan Pit Reservoir have maintained monthly
diversion records into the reservoir and provided them to the Water Commissioner.
Lafarge will follow the Division 1 Recharge Protocol dated October 20, 2004 in the development and
administration of this recharge pit.
Augmentation by Recharge
A recharge model was used to determine the timing of the lagged consumptive use credit from the 25
Fulton Ditch shares as it reached the South Platte River. The model was developed using the following
assumption:
A SDF of 75 days. Source: Hydrogeologic Characteristics of the Valley-Fill Aquifer in the
Brighton Reach of the South Platte River Valley, Colorado.
A copy of the recharge model run is provided in Appendix A.
Timing of Return Flows
The return flow obligations from these Fulton Ditch shares will be maintained by the recharge plan. The
full headgate delivery for these 25 shares will be diverted into the Zigan Reservoir each irrigation season.
Approximately 49.2 ac-ft represents the volume of consumptive use credit diverted into the reservoir, with
a winter return flow requirement of 5.3 ac-ft. Table No. 2 provides the water balance illustrating the
recharge of 25 Fulton Ditch shares into Zigan Reservoir.
C: I Documents and SettingslDonnaJ Tay[orl Loca(SettingslTemparary Interne[ Fi(es10LK81[tr Lafarge SP Combined SSP 12 28
04.doc
