With respect to revegetatior~ of the disturbed sites, the Division of Wildlife
recommends use of native plants wherever possible. In wet sites, cottonwoods and willows
are preferred. Shrubs should also be incorporated into the dry upland sites. Four-winged
salt bush, shadscale saltbush, sagebrush, and skunkbush are adapted to this environment
and provide food and shelter for wildlife. Native grasses and fortis should also be included
in the reclamation plan. We discourage planting of non-native invader species like tamarix
and Russian olive.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment and for taking the needs of wildlife into
consideration in your Pit 500 development plan. I appreciated the opportunity to tour the site
with Mr. Gardner. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to call.
Sincereiy,
Paul J.
