Lochhead
E>'ecmrve Director
Michael e. Long
Division Oirecror
The purpose of this letter is to confLrm in writing what the Division and Basin Resources
discussed by telephone in August and September of this year, concerning the annual spring and
seep survey. Basin Resources is to expand the zone of coverage for the annual spring and seep
survey at the Golden Eagle Mine, beginning with the spring and seep survey that was already in
progress for 1994. This new zone of coverage must extend 2.1 miles out from the furthest extent
of anticipated mining for the current permit term, as shown on Map 3, Golden Eagle Mine Plan.
This expansion of coverage is based on the conclusion, found in the Probable Hydrologic
Consequences section of the Golden Eagle permit, as submitted by Basin Resources for Permit
Renewal No. 2, that cone-foot dtawdown in the potentiometric surface, due to mine dewatering,
can be expected at a distance of 2.1 miles from the perimeter of mining. The previous spring
and seep surveys encompassed a zone extending one mile out from [he permit boundary, as
shown in Figure 1.1-1, Monitoring Locations, in the Annual Hydrologic Report for the 1993
water year.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
fl~,~~
seph ]. )dash
Environmental Protection Specialist
JJD/bjw
M: \055\$1 W V1D
