The parcel, in
the S W 1/4S W 1/4 of Section 23, Township 1 South, Range 1 East, Ute Meridian, has
been reclaimed as an irrigated field. The irrigated field, among other Affected Lands, is
subject to construction materials permit M-85-219, issued by the Division of Minerals
and Geology in 1985 and presently held by Parkerson Construction, Inc, (Permittee).
The irrigated field is a portion of the pit that was "mined-out" and reclaimed as
irrigated farmland. When mining was completed, atwo-foot layer of gravel was left or
replaced over the Mancos Shale formation, and two feet of overburden and topsoil were
placed over the gravel bed, leaving a minimum four foot cover of gravel and soil over the
shale formation. The area was then graded for irrigation. In the last three years, sorghum
and alfalfa have been produced from the field and crop yields are comparable to yields
for similar crops raised on other properties in the area.
Pit side slopes are adjacent to the irrigated field on two sides and have generally
been graded 3H : 1 V, but release is not being sought for the side slopes at this time. A
farming road surrounds the irrigated field and will protect the field from heavy machinery
when final grading and seeding of the side slopes is underway.
Nou = NoN~
R~F. = 31~~1oa
