SNELTON, Dlroctor
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
June 7, 1984
Mr. Bettger
Bettger Sand and Gravel
P.O. Box 771013
Steamboat Springs, Colorado 80417
Re: Amendment to the Bettger Sand and Gravel Pit - File No. 76-51
Dear Mr. Bettger:
The Division has reviewed your application for a 9.9 acre amendment to your
existing operation referenced above. The Division has the following remaining
questions and comments which must be addressed by June 21, 1984, five days
prior to the June 27-28, 1984 meeting of the Board.
1. The enclosed memo from Routt County shows only 9.91 acres under the County
~TSpecial Use Permit. However, the total area to be permitted is 25 acres.
~j' Please resolve this discrepancy and provide documentation of the resolution to
the Division.
2. Exhibit E of the amendment application should be more specific as to the
the seed mix and the methods of revegetation to be used. The Division
suggests a more diverse seed mix than that proposed by the Soil Conservation
Service.
3. Pursuant to Rule 2.12(6)(a), please provide another reclamation plan map
which shows the proposed post-mining topography.
4. In accordance with Rule 2.2(9) please supply the soil types within the
amendment area. I was unable to read the SCS map provided in the application.
5. Please revise the reclamation costs taking into account 4.0 acres of
backfilling and grading, 10.3 acres of grading and topsoiling, and 15.8 acres
of seeding, fertilizing and mulching. Please note that the Soil Conservation
Service suggests that the seed be harrowed or raked in.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Division.
Sincerely //, J
~,,n.o,~ '%~uc~
Carol Russell
Reclamation Specialist
CR/ph
Enclosure
cc: Daniel Ellison
Doc.
