SHELTON, Dindor
June 11, 1984
Mr. Dominic 8ettas
Director of Reclamation
Pittsburg & MIdway Coal Co.
Northwestern Division
Frontier, WY 83121
Re: Life-of-mine Bond Release at Edna Mine
Dear Mr. Bettas:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the Division cannot release
the performance bond for the slide area at the Edna Mine. As you know, the
Division previously proposed to release the performance bond for the slide
area in a proposed decision published in the Steamboat Pilot on May 10, 1984.
Subsequently, the slide that began on May 14, 1984, destroyed reclamation of
about 100 acres in Center Ridge. Thus, successful reclamation has not been
achieved in accordance with the applicable standards for this area.
Since the slide occurred during the public camnent period, the Division hereby
objects to the release of the performance bond associated with the area of
Center Ridge affected by the slide and requests a hearing in accordance with
Section 34-33-125, C.R.S. 1973 before the Mined Land Reclamation Board to
consider this matter.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely;
~~~
Edward L.
