Coulson Excavating Company, Inc. - Bonser Gravel Pit
Exhibit E -Reclamation Plan
Reclamation will include the construction of two lined ponds covering
approximately 53 acres (see Exhibit F). A strip of land in the north of each Phase
will be backfilled as well as a strip on the east boundary of Phase I and the south
Boundary of Phase II. Apre-existing pond will also remain in the southwest
comer of the permit area.
Surrounding Land Use
Primary land uses near the vicinity of the mine include farming, transportation,
rural residential, and recreational. A county road and railroad are located north of
the proposed mine, and two parcels of land, owned by separate landowners, are
located to the northeast. These parcels are used for rural residential and
agricultural purposes, as well as the land directly to the west. The Big Thompson
Ponds State Wildlife Area and Big Thompson River corridor are located directly
to the south of the proposed mine, and the Big Thompson River corridor
continues along the eastern project boundary.
Reclamation Sequence
Reclamation will occur concurrently with mining and begin following completion
of mining in Phase I Cell A. Mining Cells are shown in Figure 1 -Exhibit D. The
final Grading Plan is shown in Exhibit F -Reclamation Plan. The overall
sequence of reclamation will occur as follows for Phase I:
1) Following mining of Cell A, begin backfilling Cell A with overburden from
Cell B.
2) Following mining of Cell B, backfill a 150 ft strip along the eastern
boundary of Cell B and continue to backfill Cell A with overburden from
Cell C.
3) Following mining of Cell C, continue to backfill Cell A with overburden from
Cell D.
4) Following Mining of Cell D, backfill slopes (3:1) on western boundary of
Cell D with overburden from Cell E and finish backfilling of Cell A with 3:1
slopes.
5) Push Southern Boundary pit wall to 3H:1 V.
6} Rip shale from pit floor (-18,000 cy} and construct 2 ft thick Pond Liner on
slopes.
7) Disk, seed and fertilize areas as shown in Exhibit F -Reclamation Plan.
8) Replace topsoil as shown in Exhibit F -Reclamation Plan (18,000 cy).
The overall sequence of reclamation will occur as follows for Phase II:
1) Following mining of Cell A, begin backfilling Cell A with overburden
from Cell B.
