~1
' through the full thickness of the alluvial materials estimated to be 50 to 60 feet (Table 2)
Proposed monitoring wells are shown in Figure 8.

Each of the well locations have been selected on the basis of (1) evaluating whether elevated
TDS and sulfate concentrations occur upgradient of M-11R as a result of ground water flow
out of the West Pit east of M-11R and (2) assessing potential movement of waters containing
' elevated concentrations downgradient of M-11R. Pump tests of the completed wells will be conducted for 4-8
hour duration to evaluate aquifer hydraulic characteristics and obtain static water levels.
' Water quality samples will be collected from each of the wells and analyzed for parameters
presented in Table 3. Water level and hydraulic characterization data will be used to evaluate
the velocity of flow in the Rito Seco alluvium, while the water quality data will be used to
assess the extent of movement of elevated TDS and sulfate concentration water.
' Additional characterization data will be obtained from surface water gaging stations RS-1, RS-
2 and RS-5 along Rito Seco. Stream flow measurement and water quality data will be
collected from the three gaging stations to supplement ground water hydrologic evaluations.
Initial and monthly water quality samples collected with this program will be analyzed for the
' parameters listed in Table 4.
' 5.1.4 Quality Assurance/Quality Control
' The flow measurements and sampling that will be conducted for this study will follow the
quality assurancefqualitycontml (QAJQC) protocols as set forth in the manual that is currently
' being used at the San Luis Project (John C. Halepaska and Associates, Inc., October 1992).
QA/QC protocols for the drilling of monitoring wells will be prepared prior to the initiation
of drilling activities.
1

20
