DECEIVED ~~~ ~~~~~I~~~~~~~~~~
MAR 0 3 1999
Division of Minerals & Geology February 25, 1999
To Whom It May Concern:
After attending a town hall meeting in Paonia, Colorado for a right of way for
underground ventilation and access entries submitted by Bowie Resources Limited (BRL)
and talking to Mr. Allan Beh, District Manager for the Bureau of Land Management
(BLM), it is my understanding that a group of Garvin Mesa residents approached the
BLM to object a proposed coal lease from BRL. They cited environmental and quality of
life impacts on the local community.
From what I learned at the town hall meeting, newspaper articles, and talking to
Allan Belt, I truly believe that there really azen't any issues that can't be worked out, so
that everyone can be pleased with the future of the valley.
The coal mines have been in the valley for a hundred years. Let's all remember
the hundreds of men, women, and children who would suffer if the coal mines were shut
down. Not to mention the towns Merchants, Doctors, Banks Etc.
I was born and raised in the North Fork Valley, and still live Delta County. My
husband is employed at BRL, and has worked in the coal mines for 18 yeazs
We support Keith Sieber and BRL. They caze about the health and safety of then
employees. They also care about the future of the community.
We hope that BRL gets their Right of Way and their Federal Coal Lease
approved. We also hope that Oxbow Cazbon & Minerals gets their lease approved. We
feel the coal companies aze a vital part of the social and economic future of the valley.
Thank you for your your attention now, and on future coal leases.
Sincerely and Hopefully,
~~9nt~ /77 Q/1A/~~~a~
Mona M.
