We concur with
the proposed revisions. The Deserado Mine is within the boundaries of the `nonessential,
experimental population' area for black-footed ferrets, designated by the Fish and Wildlife
Service in 1998. Within this azea, the agencies cooperating in the ferret recovery program in
Colorado have the responsibility to conduct surveys for black-footed ferrets, when necessary.
We do not believe ferret surveys are required within the Deserado Mine permit azea.
Thank you far alerting us to this project. If the Service can be of further assistance, please
contact Bob Leachman at the letterhead addressor (970) 245-3920 or 243-6209, extension 18.
Sincerely,
cc: FWS/ES, Lakewood
(<~,
-Allan-R~P~ster - -
Western Colorado Field Supervisor
BLeachman: DesaradoBFFLV.wpd:052202
