The area to be added is contiguous to the existing permit <br />area. <br />Area to be Mined <br />The site to be mined lies approximately one mile north of Lamar on a <br />low, broad alluvial terrace formed by the Arkansas River. In the affected <br />area the stream lies to the south of the site and will not be affected <br />during operations. In general, the landslope in the affected area is low, <br />averaging less than one percent. The surrounding land uses are active and <br />inactive cropland, riverbottom land, and industrial. The Exhibit C map <br />included herein illustrates the amended area, and all other pertinent <br />features per Rule 2.12. <br />Soil Salvage <br />The area of the old (prelaw) pit workings has no remaining soil. For <br />most of the additional area that will be mined, the soil is classified as <br />sand and has a surface layer the ranges from about 5 to 10 in depth. Small <br />areas on the extreme northerly and westerly sides of the area to be mined <br />has a surface layer ranging from about 6 to 12 inches in depth. For the <br />additional areas to be mined, the topsoil will be stripped and stockpiled <br />around the perimeter of the site. The Exhibit C roap included herein <br />illustrates anticipated locations of topsoil stockpiles. Exhibit I <br />provides additional information regarding soils in this area. In <br />accordance with the requirements of Rule 6.4, and as agreed during review <br />of the existing permit application, the topsoil stockpiles will be <br />broadcast seeded with a grass cover such as western wheatgrass. <br /> <br />
