This soil is a good source of sand and gravel. <br />~GMI Glendive and Havre comlex. sand substrata. 0 to 1 percent <br />slodes. <br />This mapping unit is 70 percent Glendive soil and 30 percent Havre <br />soil. Both soils overlie sand and gravel at a depth of 20 to 36 inches. <br />Soils of the Glendive series are in the Alluvial great soil group and <br />are moderately shallow to deep, somewhat excessively drained, moderately <br />coarse textured, and nearly level to gently sloping. They developed in <br />calcareous material on terraces and bottom lands. These soils generally <br />are in stratified alluvium. Typically the surface layer is brown sandy <br />loas~ that is 6 to 12 inches thick and is very friable when moist. The <br />subsoil is sandy loam that is yellowish brown to brown when moist. The <br />substratum is stratified sandy loam or loamy fine sand. <br />Soils of the Havre series are moderately shallow to deep, highly <br />stratified material, medium-textured soils of the Alluvial great soil <br />group. These soils developed in stratified, calcareous alluvium on nearly <br />level bottom lands and low stream terraces. The surface layer of these <br />soils is light brownish gray, very friable, granular loam or sandy loam 6 <br />to 10 inches deep. The subsoil is loam stratified with fine sandy loam or <br />light clay loam and is about the same color as the surface layer. The <br />substratum is similar to to the subsoil. The texture of the individual <br />layers in the profile ranges from light clay loam to loamy sand. <br />Permeability in the Glendive-Havre complex is rapid, and the available <br />water capacity is low, but most of the stored moisture is readily available <br />to plants. <br /> <br />
