SEP 4 i990
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
Mined Land
Dear David: Reclamation Division
Subject: Minor Revision 1(14. Establishment of an ash monitoring well
in Middle Pyeatt Drainage.
As discussed with you on 823/90, Trapper Mine proposes to establish an ash monitoring well at the north
end of Middle Pyeatt drainage downgradient of a future ash disposal site (a technical revision will follow
showing the proposed ash disposal limits). The optimum location For establishment of this monitoring we]]
was evaluated by Trapper and Hydro Engineering (consultant) personnel. Attached is a recommendation
from Hydro Engineering concerning the placement of the well to monitor the targeted HI aquifer.
The well site is located out of the way of future mining and road building activity. Topsoil will be dozed off
of the drill pad prior to construction and replaced immediately following installation. The site will be
broadcast seeded this fall with our approved drill pad reclamation seed mix. The runoff from this distur-
bance will flow through the Middle Pyeatt sediment control system.
Well installation and design will be in accordance with Appendix V, Part C (revised ash well design figure to
include the use of PVC pipe attached) of Trapper's Mining and Reclamation Permit. Additionally, table 4.8-
13a "Operational Ground Water Monitoring Schedule, 1988-1992" is updated to show the proposed
sampling frequency and parameter lists For this location. The proposed ash monitoring well has been given
the site name GH-1 and is shown on the enclosed "Operational Hydrology Monitoring Sites" map (M52).
To ensure proper installation, Hydro Engineering has been contracted to oversee all construction activity
associated with this well site. David, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or George
Hoffman (Hydro Engineering 307266-6597).
Since y
i ~~~~~~~
William Agn
Sr. Environmental Engineer
WA/jb
[CMLRD~AUG30]
Enclosure
J.M.
