Ratliff, Pit # 8 SEP 19 2QD1 <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />Mulching material shall be applied immediately before or after seeding. Either of the two <br />mulching methods listed would be acceptable: <br />1) grass hay or cereal grain straw will be used at an application rate of 4000 Ibs per acre of <br />air dry material with at least 50% of the mulch by weight shall be 10 inches or more in <br />length. Anchor mulch immediately after distributing with a mulch crimper or disk plow <br />2) application of feedlot or barnyard manure must be of a type that has 60% or more by <br />weight, heary chunks 5 inches or more in diameter. The minimum rate of application shall <br />be 20 tons per acre, immediately before or after seeding. <br />Weed Control: <br />Annual and perennial weeds will compete with grass seedlings and may cause poor stands or <br />failures. Mowing is effective if done in a timely manner during the first two or three growing <br />seasons. After the grass is in the third or fourth leaf stage there are several commercially available <br />chemicals that may be applied at label rates. Contact the Baca County Weed Control District for <br />assistance. <br />Livestock exclusion will be practiced. Defer the seeded area for at least 2 years, until grass is <br />established.
