NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION
The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division has issued a proposed decision to
approve a technical revision to the mining and reclamation plans for the
Colorado Coal Mine No. 1, Permit No. C-81-024, operated by Kaiser Steel
Resources Inc., under the provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining
Reclamation Act of 1979. The proposed technical revision (TR - 012) was
submitted by Kaiser Steel Resources Inc. on September 30, 1991. The affected
area is located in portions of Sections 25 and 26, Township 27 5, Range 67W,
6th P.M. in Huerfano County. The mine site is located one mile north of
Walsenburg, Colorado. These lands may be located on the USGS 7.5 minute
quadrangle entitled Walsenburg North.
This technical revision described successful erosion control through
vegetation re-establishment. Kaiser Steel provided hydraulic documentation
that the total suspended solids being generated from the site were currently
less than they had been pre-mining. As a consequence of this demonstration,
the ditches and ponds at the site will be reclaimed.
Copies of the proposed technical revision are available for review at the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room
215, Denver, Colorado 80203. Any person who has an interest which is or may
be adversely affected may request a formal hearing regarding this proposed
decision. Requests for a formal hearing must be made in writing within ten
(10) days of this publication and shall state with reasonable specificity the
reasons for the request and objections to the proposed decision.
