He only just saw our letter
identifying our concerns today. He had planned to do his surface water sampling today.
One of his immediate concerns was to get the sampling done while weather permits before
the snow flies. I agreed with him that until we approve HGTI's monitoring plan he needs
some direction on what to sample. I did not see an immediate problem for this fall's
sampling event only, to allow HGTI to sample the original (Colowyo's) upstream, original
downstream, and HGTI's proposed downstream surface water site.
The second issue relates to the new groundwater well they are proposing to drill. In the
original TR submittal HGTI did not identify the location of the proposed downstream
monitoring well. That was one of the adequacy concerns we had identified in the Division's
letter to HGTI. Dennis wanted to know that if he faxed me a map with the location
identified could our hydrologist give him a "yea' or "nay" by next week, perhaps by
10/27/93? They feel if they know by then they could get it drilled this winter. If not, they'll
have to wait till spring. Can we pass this issue of the location of the monitoring well to
Barb for immediate review? She talked to Derails when we were in the field in August
about the drilling methodology, but at that time he did not know where they were proposing
to locate it. I've included HGTI's map.
I will not be in Thursday October 21st, (kid duty). I will be in on Friday then out in the
field all next week. I realize that Barb won't be in 'til Monday. So if we can hammer out
if this is feasible or not and pass it to Barb...let me know.
Thanks
