<br />NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION <br />• ~~III~I~~II~I'~~II~ <br />sss <br />The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division proposes to approve an <br />application for a permit revision (PR-O1) to the existing permit to <br />conduct coal mining and reclamation operations submitted by the <br />Colowyo Coal Company for the Colowyo Mine. The proposed permit <br />revision includes plans to increase the permit area by <br />approximately 1920 acres and to add three new surface pits to the <br />mining plan. <br />The Colowyo Mine is located in Moffat and Rio Blanco counties, <br />approximately 28 miles south of Craig, Colorado. The mine is a <br />surface mine with an anticipated maximum annual production capacity <br />of five million tons per year. The coal to be mined is federally <br />and state owned. The surface area to be affected is federally, <br />state and privately owned. The revised permit area encompasses <br />approximately 7443 acres. The legal description i.s as follows: <br />T4N, R93W, 6th P.M., all or portions of Sections 12, 13, <br />15, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 33 and 34. <br />T3N, R93W, 6th P.M., all or portions of Sections 2, 3, <br />4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21 and 22, as <br />described more completely on page 2.03-15 of the Colowyo <br />Mine permit application. <br />This proposed approval is based on a finding that the proposed <br />operation will comply with all requirements of the Colorado Surface <br />Coal Mining Reclamation Act, C.R.S. 43-33-101, et sea., and the <br />regulations promulgated thereunder. <br />Copies of the proposed decision are on file for public inspection <br />at the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, Room 215, <br />Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />and at the Moffat County court house in Craig, Colorado. Persons <br />with an interest that may be adversely affected by the proposed <br />decision may request a formal hearing before the Mined Land <br />Reclamation Board on the proposed decision. Such request must be <br />made in writing within thirty (30) days of the initial publication <br />of this notice, must be in writing, and must state with reasonable <br />specificity the reasons for the request and the objections to the <br />proposed decision.
