Colorado 80203
MAY 2 3 20~
Division of Minerals BGIdAQy
iii iiiiiiiiiiiii iii
5/20/00
Dear Mr Oehler,
Once again thanks to you and your associate for the meeting in Colorado City on May 19. The
process and the information was most helpful to all of us here in this part of the country.
I am comfortable that you and your folks and the DMG are aware of tfte issues and will follow
with your mandates to the fullest
As we discussed during the Friday meeting, 1 would recommend that you wntinue to look at
some of the hydrology issues of the Mountain Shadows Pit, particularly in terms of the potential
problem that mnoFTfrom the pit operations may severely impact Graneros Creek, and
Greenhorn road during a cloud burst As we discussed, I think there is a real infrastructure
problem here. The present conduit under Greenhorn road near the pit was one of the major
problems of [he last Flooding during heavy cloud bursts. Putting addition stress on this
infrastructure with addition run oFl' from the pit would be a big problem. I think this
potential problem needs to be addressed and looked at very closely
As discussed the rest of my issues fall under local, i.e. county and metro district, auspices.
Because these concerns are not a part of the DMG mandate 1 am askin¢ for my name to be
deleted frmn the list of oeople who want to be a party to tfie coming application review. 1 dic
send you a Party Status Request Form witT a c ec mar~mg named a party,Tsent
that to you on the 18'h prior to the Colorado City meeting. Now that we have had the meeting
1 know that my issues are not with the DMG so there is no reason for me to be a party to the
process. 1 will however remain most interested in the process and may very well change my
status if the conversation regarding lot # 14 changes from what it is today to something else.
Again thank you for your etForts to date in keeping us informed.
Regards !' /~
n Highberger 7/L
7656 Greenhorn
Rye, Colorado 81069
