~ ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
Richard Bachmann Gravel Pit, which is an existing pit, will be extended to the east
and southeast to the limits of the proposed pit. Rio Blanco County's intent is to mine this
gravel pit as a periodic aggregate source for projects in the Meeker area.
Access to the site will be an existing haul road that begins at the intersection of
County Roads 8 and 4 and lies on the west side of the pit. The pit is approximately one-
quarter mile from the intersection.
Mining will commence in the northwest section of the pit. The mining will progress
in a east to southeast direction. The pit will be excavated with scrapers, dozers and front
end loaders to one or more gravel crushers.
The topsoil and overburden will be stripped and stockpiled in the north and northwest
sections of the pit.~This stockpiling will aid with any visual concerns. These stockpiles will
accumulate over-alf~-year perio~ All mining operations (crushers, conveyors, dozers, and
scrapers) will initially be-stationed"in the northwest section of the pit.
The gravel is uniform over the area of the pit. The topsoil ranges from six to eight
inches, and the overburden ranges from three to eight feet. The majority of the overburden
is three feet. The depth of gravel averages approximately 40 feet. The actual disturbed area
at any one time will be four to five acres.
25,000 to 30,000 tons of raw material are scheduled to be mined yearly. Stockpiling
various sizes of materials will be confined to the previously excavated area.
The mining of the pit will be consistent with the gravel pits operated by the Road and
Bridge Department of Rio Blanco County.
