~~I ~~~~I~II~~~~~~I~
July 2, 1991
SUN COAL COMPANY
10200 West 44th Ave., A~120
Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
(303) 422-8064
FAX (303) 467-0714
JUL 1 0 1991
Mr. Carl Mount
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIVE
Mined Land
Reclamation Division
RE: Sun Coal, Semi-Annual Report, Meadows Mine, File No. C-81-029
Dear Mr. Mount:
1. Technical Revision (TR-10). In Mr. Waldron's letter of June 3, 1991, he
requested Sun obtain letters of concurrence from D.O.W. and John Eilts. Both
parties have letters and we are waiting for their reply.
2. Abatement of NOV C-90-058 at Meadows Mine No. C-81-029. On October
3, 1990 Judge Duchette issued John Eilts a contempt citation for dozing out the
shop berm and slope some time during the first week of September. >n
compliance with MLRD's 6-25-91 request for abatement, Sun Coal has repaired
the shop berm and slope damage. The area will be reseeded on July 3, 1991.
3. Hydrology Monitoring Data. I have enclosed copies of water analysis reports
for April and May 1991 for outfalls No. 1 (Yampa), No. 2 (Lower Pit Pond) and
No. 3 (explosive storage pond. The 200 Mg/1 oil and grease at the Yampa Pond
(outfall No. 1) on 4-15-91 resulted in the enclosed correspondence. If you have
any questions, call me.
4. Spring and Seep Survey. There are two springs in the loadout area coming
from the ancient land slide. One is south of the Yampa Pond #1 and the other
west of the crusher in the top soil storage area. The seeps in the mine reclaimed
area are dry, but the vegetation was green and waist deep.
5. Backfill Stability. The entire permit area is stable and does not show any
signs of slumping or sliding.
6. Rills and ditches. On the bench slope above pond No. 1, the drainage above
pond No. 2 and the northwest sediment trap, we are repairing recent rain
erosion by hand. Straw bales will be placed and anchored to dissipate flow..
