AMERICAN
SODA, L.L.P.
Celina Akin
Environmental Engineer
2777 County Road 275
Parachute, CO Si635
Telephone (970) 285-6500
Facsimile (970) 285-6393
6~f~~'L 1e;9~®
Monday, October 18, 2004
OCT 2 '-12004
givisian of ~ir.~:;' & Geology
Ms. Erica Crosby
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Erica:
ENV234.04
As you know, American Soda has been working under the guidance of the Division to modify the
ground water monitoring program relevant to Permit No. M-1999-002 for our solution mining well field
and production plant. Our common objective is a monitoring program that will accurately characterize
the various aquifers in relation to the Yankee Gulch Project and provide data that insures the protection
of ground water.
The monitoring system is nearly as complex as the biological system that it is designed to monitor.
Five years of monthly data have been gathered and provided for review. As with any program of this
nature, there are a number of variables and circumstances that must be understood and considered to
formulate the best possible plan. After written correspondence with the Division, and numerous
telephone conversations it is apparent that additional time will be beneficial to the understanding of all
of the data and the proposed changes. Please extend the timeframe of the Division's review of TR-#4
and subsequent clarification correspondence to Monday, November 1, 2004.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any additional questions or comments as your review
progresses. I can be reached at (970) 285-0406.
Sincerely,
~~~~ ~~~
Celina Akin
Environmental Engineer
Permit#:_ QI(-~~-Q~a __ Confidental?: Iy
Class: Type-Seq.:
From: To: ~'y)'~(~
Doc.
