Letter - TR-09
Dear Mr. Mathews,
Grand Valley Coal Company submits the following responses to the concerns
raised in the March 9, 1998 adequacy review letter.
2. The Division directed the operator to provide designs for additional erosion
protection in some of the reclaimed channels. After discussions with the Division,
Grand Valley decided to utilize a turf reinforcement material to protect the
channels. The manufacturer of the product recommends that the shear in the
channel be limited to 2.0 Ib/sgft for the material to be effective over the long
term. Page 3 of Table 3.1-1 has been added to show the shear calculations for
the channels identified by the Division.
3. The empirical proof of the effectiveness of the sediment pond is provided as Page
M-10 of Appendix M.
5. The cross sections are provided on Page M-9 of Appendix M.
6. Table 3.7.1, Reclamation Costs has been revised and totally reprinted to reflect
the changes for channel armoring and to incorporate the changes made for MR-24
and MR - 25.
7. The language regarding rip rap has been added to Page 2 of Table 3.1-1.
Please contact me or Mr. Larry Jones at White Oak Mining (435) 637 - 9200 if you
have questions or require additional information.
Sincerely;
ohn M. alters
Manager of Mine Services
