Box 1067
Ral3gely, Colorado 81648
RE: Deserado Mine (Permit No. C-81-018)
MR-112 (East Portal Facilities Relocation)
Dear Mr. Wanstedt:
~I~
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES
Roy Romer
Governor
lames S Lochhead
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Director
I have done a preliminary review of the referenced minor revision application. Certain additional
information will need to be submitted before we can determine the application to be complete.
Specifically, a completed DMG "APPLICATION FORM FOR A REVISION TO A COAL
MINING AND RECLAMATION PERMIT" will need to be provided. Also, the amended Map
I S will need to be certified as required by Rule 2.10.3(2). Three copies of the amended map and
two copies of any revised application pages should be provided.
No revised application pages were included with the original submittal, but it would appear that
permit application text will need to be amended in various sections to address proposed facility
changes, and to address current status of East Portal operations and anticipated time frame for
portal closure and final reclamation of the facility.
Description and dimensions of the proposed new facilities to be located in the D Portal Area
should be included in Section IV.B., Mine Portal Facilities. Narrative regarding waste disposal
in Section IV.D.I should also be updated as appropriate. Section III.C., Auxiliary Facilities,
would appear [o be [he most appropriate section to include updated narrative on current status of
the East Portal site. Also, it would appear that a sediment control plan for the regraded E Portal
bench area will need to be provided before final reclamation of the site is initiated. The sediment
control plan would not necessarily need to be included within this revision.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincere) ~~~
Dan T. athewsl
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Denver File
