Long
Division Director
TO: Joe Dudash
FROM: Mike Boulay 1,~~
DATE: October 8, 1999
SUBJECT: Bowie No.2 Mine, Permit No. C-96-OS3, Permit Revision No. 3
I have reviewed BRLs final response to comment number 8. The response is accepted as submitted
in their October 4, 1999 letter. In summary, BRL recalculated the mixing equations for iron and
manganese and included the coal pile leachate discharge as requested. The combined effect of the
coal leachate when added to the gob leachate was insignificant due to the much lower concentrations
of iron and manganese in the coal leachate as compared to the gob. I checked their math, and
references for the iron and manganese concentrations utilized in their evaluation. Their assessment
is valid and acceptable.
If you need additional assistance reviewing the PR-03 responses from BRL, please let me know.
c: Lazry Routten
