Riley Gravel Pit
Exhibit I
Soils Information
Jackson County has contacted the Soil Conservation District in regards to the gravel pit and learned that
the Jackson County Soils Survey as Buffnteyer Sandy Loam identifies the soils in the area. This series of
soil consist of a deep, well-drained soil that formed in gravelly alluvium and fan sediments. Included with
this soil in mapping are a few small areas of soils that aze similar to Buffineyer soils but that have a sandy
clay or clay loam B horizon or that have less than 35 percent coarse fragments and aze moderately deep
over red shale beds. Slopes range from 4 to 18 percent. In a representative profile the surface layer is a
grayish brown and very pale brown light sandy loam about 8" thick. Permeability in this soil is slow. The
hazards of soil blowing and water erosion are moderate. The Service recommends a minimum of 6" of
topsoil for the reclaimed pit.
l0
