Long <br />TO: James Stevens, Bruce Humphries Division Direaw <br />FROM: James Dillie <br />RE: Proposed Monitoring and Water Quality Evaluation Plan as Required by <br />TR-018, San Luis Project, Permit No. M-88-112 <br />Pursuant to TR-018, Stipulation No. 7, BMRI is required to submit a proposal for a <br />groundwater monitoring system and methodology of the West Pit backfilling operation. <br />BMRI's consultant, John C. Halepaska & Associates, Inc., prepared the proposal and <br />submitted it to the Division on August 21, 1995. <br />Components of the proposal which satisfy the requirements of Stipulation No. 7 and are <br />acceptable to the Division are as follows: <br />Monitoring Site Selections -BMRI proposes to monitor the Rito Seco <br />Alluvium in the existing M-11 well, the precambrian gneiss will be <br />monitored in the existing dewatering well (it will be converted when <br />dewatering of the pit is no longer required) and the Santa Fe formation will <br />be monitored from a new well that will be located a short distance <br />downgradient of the West Pit approximately 300 feet southeast of the <br />dewatering well. <br />2. Monitoring Well Construction Details -The designs shown on figures 3, 4, <br />and 5 are acceptable. <br />3. Installation of Piezometers -Two standpipe piezometers will be located <br />near the west edge of the pit to evaluate the progress of the te-filling of the <br />pit and the re-establishment of the hydraulic gradient. <br />4. Approved Protocols for Water Quality Monitoring -BMRI committed to <br />using protocols set out in TR-06. <br />
