Dept. of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 423
Denver, CO 80203-2273
RE: Technical Revision for Truck Scale Installation at
North Thompson Creek Mines, Permit No. C-025-81
Dear Mr. Liddle:
Snowmass Coal Company hereby requests a Technical Revision
to Permit No. C-025-81 to allow the installation of truck weighing
scales near the entrance of the North Thompson Creek Mines.
As shown on the enclosed map, the new truck weighing scales
will be located approximately due north of the Washer Plant. In
order to locate these scales in this area it will be necessary
to enlarge the existing road cut.
Approximately 1100 cubic yards of Mancos Shale will need
to be cut out at a slope of 1H:1V. All topsoil removed from
this area will be stored in our topsoil storage area. All
excavated rock will be used for rip-rap if possible. If the
rock is not usable as rip-rap it will be placed in our refuse
pile.
Immediately adjacent to the truck scales a small metal or
wood building will be constructed to house the weighing equipment.
This building will be notched into the hillside as shown on the
enclosed map.
The proposed location of these truck scales lies directly
over ditch D-6 which carries undisturbed water to pond P-4,
In order to maintain this conduit, Snowmass proposes to install
a half-section piece of 36" diameter culvert pipe. If this pipe
is placed on a slope of 28, it will be able to safely pass 25.5
cfs of water. The 10 year 24 hour peak flow for this ditch is
20.7 cfs. This half-section of pipe will be installed so that
no drainage from the truck scales will mix with the undisturbed
water.
