M04007MT
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the geotechnical engineering
study we conducted for the existing and proposed Bowie Number 2
Mine gob pile which is located near Paonia, Colorado. The study was
conducted at the request of Mr. Collin Stewart in accordance with
our proposal for the construction proposal dated October 15, 2003.
The conclusions, suggestions and recommendations presented in
this report are based on the data gathered during our laboratory
study and on our experience with similar soil conditions. Factual
data gathered during the laboratory work are summarized in Appendix
A.
1.1 Proposed Construction
It is our understanding that the gob pile is currently under
construction and is approaching one hundred (100) feet in vertical
height. The face of the constructed gob pile is laid back at an
' inclination of about two to one (2:1) (horizontal to vertical). We
understand that the proposed gob pile will be constructed to about
two-hundred-thirty (230) feet in height. The slope face of the pile
' will include three (3) horizontal benches, fifteen (15) feet in
width located approximately every fifty (50) vertical feet and a
haul road twenty (20) feet in width.
' 1.2 Scope of Services
Our services included geotechnical engineering laboratory stud-
ies, analysis of the acquired data and report preparation for the
existing and proposed gob pile construction. The scope of our
services is outlined below.
' - We visited the site on August 3, 2004 to obtain samples of the
coal gob material and clay borrow material.
' - The laboratory study included tests of soil samples obtained
during our site visit and was performed on specimens which were
proportioned and blended from the coal gob material and clay
' borrow to help assess:
37Cam6ert anD ~,s~,e'ociates
CONSULTING GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERS AND
MATERIAL TESTING
