Long
Division Dueclor
Pursuant to Title 33, Article 34, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised
Statutes, the Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice that on
September 7, 1993, an application for renewal of a valid, existing permit to
conduct coal mining operations, Permit No. C-81-012, by Basin Resources, Inc.,
14300 Highway 12, Weston, Colorado 81091, was deemed complete for the
purposes of filing. All reviews and comment periods as provided in the Act
and Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from this day of filing.
The applicant proposes to continue conducting underground coal mining
operations at the New Elk Mine. This permit renewal is for a five year
period. Coal processing, storage and shipping, along with coal refuse
disposal, is conducted at the New Elk Mine.
The permit area is located approximately 25 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado,
along Highway 12, in the following described lands:
Sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 34, 35
and 36 of Township 33 South, Range 68 West; Sections 1
and 2 of Township 34 South, Range 68 West; Sections 30
and 31 of Township 33 South, Range 67 West; and Section 6
of Township 34 South, Range 67 West.
All sections are partially or fully projected by Basin Resources
due to the unsurveyed nature of the Maxwell Land Grant.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map
of Vigil, Tercio and Stonewall.
In order for us to approve this renewal application, we are required to
confirm that projections and assumptions in the permit remain valid and that
the operation is in compliance with the approved permit. We are requesting
your agency's evaluation of the renewal application with respect to the
continued validity of the original finding that "the proposed operations will
not adversely affect any publicly owned park or place listed on or those
places eligible for listing, as determined by the SHPO, on the National
Register of Historic Places, unless approved jointly by the Board and the
Federal, State, or local agency with jurisdiction over the park or place".
• III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
STATE OF COLORADO
4- uY
