I am a landowner on the
northeast side of the proposed mining operation. My wife and [will be
building a new home in the near future on this site, located approximately 275
feet from the proposed expansion at•ea.
Being in the mining indushy myself, I do not want to oppose this application,
but I would like to be ensured that my family's health and the property values
in the area will not be effected adversely by this expansion.
I am concerned with our sub-irrigation grassland, which produces our hay
crop each year, along with the depth of our water well, which is at 55 feet. I
strongly feel that Butala Construction, or• future owners, should be held liable
for the cost of obtaining and drilling a new well if the watertable ever drops to
an insufficient level. I also believe in ordet• to determine how the mining will
impact our water issues, Mr. Butala should seek a hydrologist For an expert
opinion to address our• ptesent and future concerns.
Dust and noise which would be created by t}te crushing operation and the haul
truck traffic are also a concern to us. I understand the operation will be
crushing in an area that was once used to treat raihoad ties with creosote. 1
think it is a great idea to use this material in asphalt, but I feel reluctant about
the dust particles blowing through the air which will contain this
contamination.
1 am also concerned about the inevitable drop in land values when the
operation stockpiles its materials, blocking the spectacular views we now have
of the mountains. 1 would like to be informed as to what kind of reclamation is
planned and the timeframe of such reclamation.
Will this operation have enough water usage permitted to control dust
pollution? I would like to recommend that all haul roads, stockpiles, mined
areas and crushing operations be watered daily and as needed throughout the
day to suppress the dust problem. This may require a water spray curtain on
the crushing operation itself and the use of magnesium chloride on haul roads.
i~
