Permit No. M-1980-146. Technical Revision
Dear Mr. Shuey:
We would like to make the following revisions to our Mining Plan and Reclamation Plan
for the above permit:
MINING PLAN
While mining in the southwest corner of the amended 10-acre area, C & J Gravel
discovered a deposit of gravel below the anticipated surface. C & J Gravel will mine
approximately 45 feet below the surface at the deepest point and slope back to the
surface in the southwest corner of the 10-acre amended area. The disturbed area will
be approximately 100 feet east to west and 450 feet north to south with an average
depth of 22.5 feet. A near vertical highwall on the west side will be maintained during
mining of this area, as allowed by BLM.
RECLAMATION PLAN
The highwalls will be sloped using remaining material surrounding the area mined below
the surface. If that is insufficient to create an adequate slope, we will then strip the pit
floor from the east and north of the mined area to create more till. This area will be
graded and contoured to create a "natural drainage" area. We will raise the floor of the
area to an average of 20 feet from the surface using the material from the slopes. This
material is raw unprocessed gravel and will make an excellent drainage bed. We will
then cover the contoured slopes with overburden to a depth of 1 foot. Topsoil will be
applied to a depth of 6-8" which will allow vegetation to take hold. We will create a 5 foot
compacted berm using the rocky soil at the south end of the mined out area, as well as
strategically placing haybales, which will control sediment leaving the pit area. We will
use gabion style rock to line and buffer 20 to 30 feet from the discharge area.
