Long

FROM:
Erica Crosby Division Director
RE: Bowie Mine #1 C-81-038 (formerly Orchard Valley Mine)
Stability Analysis for New Reclamation Plan
Jim, Bowie Resources Limited has submitted a revised reclamation plan for the Bowie #1
Mine. The Division originally requested that the operator demonstrate that the minimum
static factor of 1.3 can be achieved on all backfilled slopes. Bowie responded by stating that
the old reclamation stability analysis presented in Volume 6 can apply since the slopes are
still 2:1. Bowie is utilizing fill material on the benches to reclaim the highwalls as well as
using roughly 150,000 cY of material from the Timber Storage Area (fill material from the
diversion ditch cut).
Please review the revised reclamation plan and the stability analysis performed by Geo-
Hydro Consulting in 1982 to see if the old stability demonstration can be applied to the new
reclamation plan. I would appreciate a response by December 10, 1996.
Thank you for your assistance.
c:\wp51\misc\961118
