Walther
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Atting Division Director
I received the fee payment that you sent last week for the above-named technical revisions (see attached
receipt). As I stated in previous correspondence, this single fee for $188 covers the review of one permit
technical revision, but since the same revision is to be incorporated into four more permits, the fee is
waived for the additional revisions. As noted in the caption above, the technical revisions are approved
and are now made part of the county's gravel pit permits.
The monitoring and treatment of noxious weeds on the county's gravel pits is an important aspect of the
operations of the sites. Weed control, as defined in your prior submittals, is part of each of the permit's
approved mining and reclamation plans. As such, successful control of noxious weed infestations will be
inspected in the course of the Division's regular monitoring inspections. It is understood that control is
not immediate but is long-term, and that full eradication is normally not possible after only a couple
seasons of treatment. This office encourages the operator to explore a variety of treatment options if they
are felt to potentially be beneficial in the fight against weeds.
Since ongoing weed control is part of the mining and reclamation activity at the sites, please note in fixture
annual reports what types of weed control activities were implemented, on which areas of the sites, and
what results were observed. This will inform this office that the plans are being followed, and may assist
us in offering useful weed control information to other operators with similar weed problems.
If you have questions, feel free to contact me at the Division's Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio,
Room 125, Durango, CO 81301; telephone 970/247-5193 or fax 970/247-5104.
