-z-
The topographic survey of the regraded area showed a site sloping to the
northwest with the lower, northern slopes ranging from 13.7% to 16.1 A.
The approved Reclamation Map showed similar slopes of 14,7p to 18.5,
suggesting that Native had achieved a mild reduction of slope in that
area. On the other hand, this reduction was probably attained through a
mild oversteepening of the upper portion of the pit. The upper half of
Utie regraded pit nad slopes ranging from 11 ,3b to 12.30 while the
approved Reclamation 14ap showed a slope of 9.8`5. A small ridge was
constructed in the center of the mined out Pit 4 area td achieve blending
between the previously reclaimed area and the 1990 reclaimed area. A
minor Swale was observed to the northeast of the ridge. While Lhe site's
general configuration differs mildly from the approved configuration, the
Division's assessment, prior to completion of reclamation activities at
the site, is that bacf:filliny of the open portion of Pit 4 was done
according to the reclamation plan.
The western portion of the disturbance was surveyed to assess Pond 4's
configuration and the slope east of the pond. The top of the slope is
crowned by a triangular tupsoil pile 500' long and 8' high. The area
sloping to the pond has no topsoil and has not yet been worked in 1990.
Currently slopes of 50-55~ drop down to the pond whereas the approved
Reclamation Map shows slopes of 17`5. Rockcastle has indicated that a
plan is torthcoming to perform backsloping in this area to achieve
approximate original contour.
The shop buildings were removed early this Sumner. The metal buildings
were taken from the site and the unreinforced concrete pad was rubblized
and pushed into the pit. Drainage culverts are the only remaining
structures at the mine and many of them will be pulled out per IV(3) of
the June 27, 1990 Agreement.
The remaining reclamation work at the site is of low to moderate
difficulty. Outstanding reclamation projects include:
1. Completion of topsoiling at the sits. ,,
2. Revegetation of regraded areas in Pit 4, including the shop area
and areas of overburden and topsoil stockpiling pursuant to II(3)
of the Agreement.
3. Reclamation of of sediment ponds 2, 3, 4 and 5/6 pursuant td
III(2).
4. Stabilization measures at Pits 5 and 6 pursuant td IV(i),
5. Stabilization of roads pursuant to I(2) and as modified by IY(2).
6. Removal of sediment control structures per IV(3) and
re-establishment of sediment control structures per IV(4).
7. Sealing and reclamation of spoils monitoring well.
