HISTORICAL TRACKING RECORD
• PRE-PERMIT NISTORY OF THE OPERATION
Pre-permit History
I. Source of information is "Transit Mix Pit #2 Production
History" written by Carl C. Herskind.
2. Original Purchase in 1954.
3. Mining started west of Academy Boulevard in 1956.
4. In early 1970's Academy Boulevard was extended southward
through the mining area.
5. First regulatory authority for reclamation by Colorado was
issued in 1973.
a)This is why the permit number is 73-007.
b)This was the seventh operation in Colorado to be permitted
under the 1973 mined land reclamation law.
6. The original permit was upgraded to a life of the mine permit
on June 27, 1980.
7. The rest of this permit tracking summary concerns events
after issuance of the original permit.
ORIGINAL 1980 PERMIT AND TECHNICAL REVISION ~l PROVISIONS SUMMARY
• The following is a summary of the provisions included in the
original permit and technical revision #1 for this site. This
summary provides a tracking of the changes in the permit since it
was issued.
ORIGINAL PERMIT
1. The total area in the permit was 159.4 acres.
2. The permitted land was divided into four areas.
3. Map HS1 shows the permit boundaries and some of the features
discussed below.
4. Area 1 (74.1 acres) was located west of Academy Boulevard.
a)Referred to as Mined Out.
b)This essentially contained the processing facilities.
c)A small amount of reclamation was proposed.
1) Involved backfilling and revegetating the North and
East slopes of the pit.
2) The North slope was against the sand ridge separating
this operation from Castle Concrete's Sand Pit to the
north.
3) The sand ridge existed because the Fountain Mutual
Ditch was constructed on the top of the ridge.
r ~
LJ
History
Page HIS-3
