OF MINERALS <br />8 GEOLOGY <br />Per today's telephone conversation, please find attached an application for Minor <br />Revision No. 48. The purpose of the Minor revision is to expedite the approval of the drilling of <br />an additional monitoring well ("6700 well") on Streeter Fill. <br />On September 1, 1998 Colowyo submitted to the Division a request for Technical <br />Revision No. 45. The purpose of this TR was to 1) install the new monitor well on the 6700 foot <br />elevation bench on Streeter fill and 2) to modify the Streeter fill monitoring program to include <br />the new well site. The proposed well for MR 48 is the same well location proposed in TR 45. <br />While the designation of the 6700 well as the new monitoring point will still continue through the <br />required TR approval process, the drilling of the 6700 well itself can be approved and <br />accomplished through the MR process. <br />The Contractor selected by Colowyo to complete the 6700 well is the same contractor <br />who will be drilling for the CDMG/AML program on the old Streeter underground mine fire. The <br />Contractor has indicated he will be available to drill the well as early as October 3, 1998. We <br />are concerned that the timing of the approval of the well location through the more cumbersome <br />TR process will not allow for the drilling of the well when the contractor is available and <br />mobilized onsite.
