~,
Gravel Pit Reclamation Plan
Sec 22, T 145, R50W
The existing gravel pit ie located in the Stoneham loam, 0 to 3 percent elopes,
mapping unit. A soils map and mapping unit descriptions are attached.
Vegetation on the site consists of native grasses, £orbe, brush and trees.
Native grasses include blue grams, buffalagraes, bo[tlebrush equirreltail,
three awn, sand dropaeed, western wheatgraes and inland saltgraes. Other
plants found include sand sagebrush, prickly pear, rubber rabbitbrush, yucca,
anakeweed and cottonwood trees.
A drainageway is located immediately to [he east of the pit. It appears that
a sediment retention structure has been constructed to prevent sediment damage
to downstream areas. Adequacy of the structure is questionable,
Construction
Topsoil should be stockpiled during mining operations and later reapplied
after slopes have been shaped to aid in re-establishing vegetation.
Following mining operations, slopes should be shaped to 3:1 or flatter.
Small areas of 2:1 elopes are often unavoidable but should be kept to a
minimum.
Bunoff water from the site or adjacent areas must be controlled with diversions
or similar structures to prevent serious erosion and damage to the planting.
Fertilizer Reauiremente
The rate of fertilizer application should be 50 pounds of nitrogen (N) and
50 pounds of phosphate (P205) per acre. Tree of application shall be immedi-
ately prior to seeding, at the time of seeding, or immediately following seed-
ing, ea applicable to the kind of fertilizer and type of equipment used.
Seedbed Preoaretion.end Seedin¢
The seedbed should be well settled and firm. Competitive stands of weeds
should be controlled with shallow tillage or by application of herbicides,
Soils that have been over-compacted by equipment, especially when wet,
should be tilled to break up reatrioting layers.
Seed should be planted with a grave drill. Small areas too steep for drilling
may be broadcast by hand, Seed planted with a drill shall be covered with soil
to a depth of l/4 to 314 inch. Broadcast seed may be incorporated by raking or
harrowing,
The following seed mixure is suitable.
