PUBLIC NOTICE <br />West Elk Coal Company, Inc., P.O. Box 591, Somerset, Colorado <br />81434, phone (303) 929-5015, has filed an application for the <br />renewal of it's Mining and Reclamation Permit No. C-80-007 with <br />the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board under provisions of the <br />Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The permit <br />was originally issued by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />in July, 1981, and reissued August, 1986. The five year permit <br />term expires in August, 1991. The Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine five <br />year permit area contains lands in Sections 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, <br />19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 34, Township 13 South, <br />Range 90 West, 6th Principal Meridian. The permit area is <br />approximately 4,276 acres. The location of the lands can be found <br />on the USGS 7.5 minute Somerset Quadrangle Topographic Map. The <br />surface is owned by West Elk Coal Company, Inc., Grand Mesa <br />Properties and the U.S. Government. The coal is under Federal <br />lease to West Elk Coal Company, Inc. The post mining land use is <br />rangeland and wildlife habitat. <br />A copy of the permit renewal application is available for review <br />at the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division, Room 215, 1313 <br />Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone (303) 866-3567 and <br />at the Gunnison County Courthouse, 200 East Virginia Street, <br />Gunnison, Colorado 81230. Comments must be filed with Colorado <br />Mined Land Reclamation Division within 30 days of the first notice <br />of publication. <br />
