Lnnx <br />D iv isimi Dueclnr <br />Pursuant to Title 33, Article 34, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised <br />Statutes, the Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice that on <br />January 10, 1996, an application for renewal of a valid, existing permit to <br />conduct coal mining operations, Permit No. C-80-004, by Grand Valley Coal <br />Company, P.O. Box 70, Loma, CO 81524, was deemed complete for the purposes of <br />filing. All reviews and comment periods as provided in the Act and <br />Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from this day of filing. <br />The applicant proposes to continue conducting underground coal mining <br />operations at the McClave Canyon Mine within the previously approved permit <br />area located to the east of State Highway 139, approximately 19 miles north of <br />Loma, Colorado. The permit area is located in the following portions of <br />Township 7, Range 102 West, 6th P.M., in Garfield County, Colorado: <br />Section 15 ALL <br />Section 21 E 1/2, E 1/2 W 1/2, SW 1/4 NW 1/4, and NW 1/4 SW 1/4 <br />Section 22 ALL <br />Section 16 E 1/2 <br />Section 27 N 1/2 <br />Section 28 NW 1/4 NE 1/4 and NE 1/4 NW 1/4 <br />The renewal application includes updated compliance information and <br />modifications to the hydrologic monitoring plan. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map <br />of Garvey Canyon and Howard Canyon. <br />In order for us to approve this renewal application, we are required to <br />confirm that projections and assumptions in the permit remain valid and that <br />the operation is in compliance with the approved permit. We are requesting <br />your agency's evaluation of the renewal application with respect to the <br />continued validity of the assumptions and projections of the mining and <br />reclamation plan which relate to fish and wildlife considerations, including <br />potential impacts to threatened or endangered species. <br />
