Pursuant to Title 33, Article 34, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised
Statutes, the Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issLles notice that on
January 10, 1996, an application for renewal of a valid, existing permit to
conduct coal mining operations, Permit No. C-80-004, by Grand Valley Coal
Company, P.O. Box 70, Loma, CO 81524, was deemed complete fol~ the purposes of
filing. All reviews and comment periods as provided in the Act and
Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from this day of filing.
The applicant proposes to continue conducting underground coal mining
operations at the McClave Canyon Mine within the previously approved permit
area located to the east of State Highway 139, approximately 19 miles north of
Loma, Colorado. The permit area is located in the following portions of
Township 7, Range 102 West, 6th P.M., in Garfield County, Colorado:
Section 15 ALL
Section 21 E 1/2, E 1/2 W 1/2, SW 1/4 NIJ 1/4, and NW 1/4 SI1 1/4
Section 22 ALL
Section 16 E 1/2
Section 27 N 1/2
Section 28 NW 1/4 NE 1/4 and NE 1/4 NW 1/4
The renewal application includes updated compliance information and
modifications to the hydrologic monitoring plan.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map
of Garvey Canyon and Howard Canyon.
In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that
comments be submitted to the Division of Minerals and Geology at the above
address by 5:00 p.m. on March 11, 1996. If no comments are received by this
date, we will proceed on the assumption that your agency has no concerns with
or objections to the applicant's proposal.
