E°ng
D~r~ahm Dueclor
DATE: March 1, 2000
SUBJECT: Bowie No. 2 Mine, Permit No. C-96-083, Technical Revision No. l2
I have reviewed Bowie Resources Limited's (BRL's) responses to our adequacy review letter for
TR-12. I have one additional comment for Item 11 concerning the construction of the vent shaft.
10. Response accepted.
l 1. BRL will grout through the water bearing zone which is approximately 0 feet to l40 feet
below ground surface (bgs). Please refer to their response to Item l0 in their letter dated
February 24, 2000. Information obtained by BRL from an exploration hole drilled at this
location indicates that the formations below 140 feet bgs are dry.
In their response to this comment, BRL states that if groundwater flows encountered below l40
fee[ bgs are excessive, the formation will be grouted. I confirmed this in a telephone
conversation with Jim Stover of J.E. Stover & Associates on February 29, 2000. I requested that
Jim andlor the operator inform the Division in writing if excessive flows are encountered during
construction of the vent shaft. The Division should also be kept informed on any decision by the
operator to grout any portion of the formation(s) below 140 feet bgs. If deemed necessary, we
can request that the operator provide the Division with periodic progress reports during
construction.
12. Response accepted.
C: Larry Routten
