Public Notice Mountain Coal Company, L.L.C. (PvICC), West Elk Mine, P.O. Box 591, Somerset, CO 81434, (970) 929-5015, has filed a complete application for Technical Revision Nmmber 109, to Mining and Reclamation Permit Number C-80-007 With the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Boazd (Boazd) under the provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The Technical Revision is to construct a ventilation shaft (Deer Creek Shaft) with an adjacent mine emergency escape shaft and related facilities. The project is located in Township 13 South, Range 90 West 6'~ PM, Gunnison County, Colorado in a portion of Section 32. The shaft ~~ill be located on an existing light-use road and pad having an area of approximately 1.9 acres on land managed by the USFS. The current permit was originally issued by the Boazd in July 1981, reissued August 1986, January 1993 (Effective August 1991), July 1996, and renewed July 31, 2001. Permit Renewal (RN-OS) w-as completed in 2007 and increases the Sve-yeaz permit term until July 31, 2011. The West Elk Mine permit area contains lands in Sections 9-11, 13- 30, and 3436, Township li South, Range 90 West 6'~ PM; and Sections 23-26, Township li South, Range 91 West, 6'" PM in Delta and Gunnison Counties and encompasses approximately 15,637.80 acres. The area is found on the USGS 7.5 minute Somerset Quadrangle Topographic Map.
