Public Notice <br />Mountain Coal Company, L.L.C. (PvICC), West Elk Mine, P.O. Box 591, Somerset, CO <br />81434, (970) 929-5015, has filed a complete application for Technical Revision Nmmber <br />109, to Mining and Reclamation Permit Number C-80-007 With the Colorado Mined <br />Land Reclamation Boazd (Boazd) under the provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal <br />Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The Technical Revision is to construct a ventilation <br />shaft (Deer Creek Shaft) with an adjacent mine emergency escape shaft and related <br />facilities. The project is located in Township 13 South, Range 90 West 6'~ PM, <br />Gunnison County, Colorado in a portion of Section 32. The shaft ~~ill be located on an <br />existing light-use road and pad having an area of approximately 1.9 acres on land <br />managed by the USFS. <br />The current permit was originally issued by the Boazd in July 1981, reissued August <br />1986, January 1993 (Effective August 1991), July 1996, and renewed July 31, 2001. <br />Permit Renewal (RN-OS) w-as completed in 2007 and increases the Sve-yeaz permit term <br />until July 31, 2011. The West Elk Mine permit area contains lands in Sections 9-11, 13- <br />30, and 3436, Township li South, Range 90 West 6'~ PM; and Sections 23-26, <br />Township li South, Range 91 West, 6'" PM in Delta and Gunnison Counties and <br />encompasses approximately 15,637.80 acres. The area is found on the USGS 7.5 minute <br />Somerset Quadrangle Topographic Map.
