Lowland Reclamation:
The recl:unation objective in the lowland area is to recreate a stable creek bottom environment
with a diverse riparian habitat. [n the lowland azea the creek bottom will be reestablished to
operate naturally as it does now. The side slopes will be no more than 4:1 (horizontal: vertical).
In progress reclamation will minimize the amount of disturbed ground downstream of the mining
pond as reclamation moves upstream. Both the upstream and downstream mining limits will be
tapered (width and depth) so that the occasional creek flow will not increase in velocity (see
Figure D-1).
MATERIALS HANDLING
The backfilled azeas will be compacted to ensure they are stabile and to minimize erosion.
Backfilling will immediately follow the mining progress to keep up with the plan of concurrent
reclamation. A minimum of six to 12 inches of topsoil will be used to cap the backfilled azeas.
The slopes of the reclaimed azeas will be no steeper than 4:1 to 5:1 (horizontal: vertical).
Upland Reclamation:
Backfilling of the mined areas will be required in order to bring the final topography within 25
feet of the existing grade. The main source of backfill material will come from topsoil,
overburden, and rejected materials. This structural fill material does not contain acid forming or
toxic substances.
The operator reserves the option of bringing off-site inert fill material for backfilling the upland
areas. If the operator chooses to bring off-site inert fill, the DMG will be provided with a 30 day
prior Notice. The Notice will include the following (as describe in the Rule 3.1.5(9) of the
Mined L:md Reclamation Rules):
1) A narrative that describes the approximate location of the proposed backfilling activity;
2) The approximate voltune of inert material to be backfilled;
3) A signed affidavit certifying that the material is clean and inert as defined in Rule
1.1(20).
4) The approximate dates the proposed activity will commence and end, however, such
dates shall not be an enforceable condition;
5) An explanation of how the backfilled site will result in apost-mining configuration that is
compatible with the approved post-mining land use; and
b) A genera] engineering plan stating how the material will be placed and stabilized to avoid
unacceptable settling and voids.
E-2
