Exhibit "B"
1993
Site Description
Grand County
Kremmling Airport Gravel Pit
The site is a 21.305 acre site immediately adjacent to the Town of
Kremmling. The site is accessed from State Highway 9 proceeding
South from the Town of Kremmling. The site is surrounded by
existing industrial uses; Kremmling/Grand County Airport to the
North; Colorado River Land Corporation to the West; Amax
Molybdenum Corporation to the South; and Louisiana Pacific
Corporation and a propane storage area to the East.
As you know, Grand County is not the only entity that has
historically mined this site. In addition to Grand County, the
Town of Kremmling, Kremmling Timber Company, Edward Hines Lumber
Company and Louisiana-Pacific Corporation have all taken materials
from this site over the last 25 years. It is impossible for Grand
County to identify the exact areas mined by each entity. The only
exact identifiable area that was mined by Grand County is shown on
the drawing attached to the application letter and was mined under
permit M78-143. Grand County has proceeded with an application
for reclamation of the entire site even though Grand County is not
solely responsible for the historic mining activities on this site.
The soils on the site are identified by the Soil Conservation
Service as Tine Gravelly Sandy Loam and Tine Cobbly Sandy Loam.
Both soils are underlain by gravel to a depth of more than 20'.
There is topsoil in small pockets on the site, but most of the
site has gravel exposed to the surface.
Vegetation on the site is very sparce to non-existent. The
area yet to be mined supports a few weedy plants, thistle and
yellow sweet clover. The Soil Conservation Service states that
"had the area not been distributed it would be classified as Dry
Mountain Loam range site".
The Soil Conservation Service has done a complete analysis of this
site and their review is enclosed in this packet under Exhibit "D".
To the South a large industrial storage building and rail site has
been established by Amax Molybdenum Corporation. The building
is approximately 300 yards from the site.
To the immediate West and adjacent to the site, Independent Gas
Company has a propane storage area. Louisiana Pacific Corporation
has a now defunct wood processing and mill area.
The property to the North is owned by Grand County or under
agreement for purchase from a willing seller (Louisiana Pacific).
The Kremmling/Grand County Airport runway is over 400 feet from
the Northern boundary of the site.
