Cottony
Division Director.
Natural Resource~trustee
The Division has reviewed your revision request for a revised reclamation plan for Bestway
Paving's Pit No. 1. The adequacy concerns listed below will need to be resolved prior to the
Division's approval of your request. We request that you provide a response on or before the
April 13, 2005 decision date. Please let us know if you need additional time to prepare a
response.
1. The applicant states on page 2 that structures on the site currently support the industrial
activities and are likely to remain for the final land use. During previous site inspections, the
operator had expressed a commitment to remove all such buildings and foundations in the
remaining permit area (northwest portion) during final reclamation. The Division is not opposed
to leaving such structures providing the operator can adequately demonstrate in writing that these
structures and buildings aze zoned for industriaUcommercial use. Please clarify whether the
buildings and building foundations, and fuel storage areas will be removed or will remain during
final reclamation.
2. The applicant states on page 2 that areas of the pit floor expected to receive truck or other
vehicle traffic, storage, or maintenance will be covered with a 2-inch layer of gravel. It appears
that areas to receive truck or vehicle traffic will require a gravel layer of at least 4 inches or
greater. Please respond.
3. The applicant states on page 3 that other pit slope areas, however, maybe stabilized with
material similar to the gravel used for the pit floor stabilization. Please identify on the revised
reclamation plan map the location and extent of these slope areas.
Office of
Mined I and Reclamation
Office of
Active and Inactive Mines
Colorado
Geoloeical Survev
