Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
It appears that the proposed closure plan for the Northwest Airshaft at the Golden Eagle
Mine must be revised to incorporate additional grout during shaft closure. Specifically,
the shaft completion diagram indicates static water was encountered at an approximate
elevation of 7190. This also approximates the local elevation of the Purgatoire River, and
is close to the water level of 7196 observed in the windmill well during 1995. The
completion diagram also indicates the highest water-bearing zone to be at elevation 7233.
Please revise the plan, including the diagram on proposed revised page 2.05-28A, to
verify that grout will be placed to an elevation at least 20 feet above the 7233 water-
bearing elevation. Also revise the bond estimate accordingly.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
Sincere ,
Da ' erry
Coal Program Supervisor
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
