Section 780.18 (b) Continued.
DeparGnent of Fhvirormiental quality. As proposed in these guidelines and in
• Section 816.116, grourcl cover arri productivity will be sampled on both
undisturbed reference a,~G and on areas that have „*r7Pngnrw oca~lplete
reclamation. rr^~i~TMbed areas aryl marked reference areas will be established
that are r*+*~'+*ative of the soils, slope, aspect, and vegetative cc~mm~nity of
the site ai~ti,+-t,~~ by mining. 'Ilia reference areas far the ~*'+~;t area are shown
on Vegetation Maps 15 and 16. 'ihe reference areas are a~ Y;~+~ately 2'~ acres in
size and will be given the identical kind of management found on adjaoPnt lands
of the same type. prPm;nim lard use aryl management practices are described Zn
Section 779.22. Sampling of the vegetation within the pxvposed referenced areas
will be based upon the randcanized location of fifteen 50 meter transacts. 'Ilia
specific sampling techniques to be employed are those d;er„~ec+A in Section 779.19
and utilized during the 1979 data collection period. 'Ihe sampling will be done
at an intensity that will satisfy the 9o percent confidence interval. Data will
be collected throughout the bond liability period to determine when the cover
equals that of undisturbed areas, and when grazing can be started.
Revegetation of the reclaimed sites will be deemed successful when ~asur~++P*+ts
• of reclaimed herbaceous cover and productivity are at least 90 percent of the
cover and productivity values for the reference area with 90 percent statistical
confidence. If herbaceous cover and productivity on the revegetated area are
determined to be less than the reference areas, a one--tailed "t" test will be
performed to determine if there is a statistically significant difference. Based
on this test, revegetation will be denied successful when the calculated "t" is
less than ar equal to the "t" value fran the one-tailed "t" distribution table
(see August 9, 1980 response to OSM stipulation ~9). Zt1e following forn¢Lla for
the one-tailed "t" test was obtained frc~ page 13 of Statistical Etraluation of
Reveaetati.on SuocPSS on Goal Lands In the West, L.L.
